The Land Around Us Documentary Film
A Film by Vicky Z Chan, Lauren Gillespie, Avery Hill, Tatiana Bellagio, Kristy Mualim
A group of ecology graduate students come to the realization that they want to better understand their relationship to land around them. They embark on a journey across the Greater San Francisco Bay Area to learn from people involved with land. As they talk to the four different experts with diverse backgrounds in land stewardship (Dr.Jorge Ramos, Jorge Romero, Lynn Lozier, and Charlie Toledo), the students realize that there are things we can all do to better connect with our land. The full film is on Youtube hereNote from the team: We are super excited to release our first ever documentary film, and hope by learning more about the land around us and the diversity of relationships that are possible, we will make important steps towards a better world for people and nature. We would love to share this film with as many people as possible. Thank you to the McCoy Center for Ethics in Society for supporting the production of this film.Open to setting up screenings around the bay area!

Herbarium Virtual Field Trip
(Sept 2023) Role: Project lead, Co-lead by Eugene Tang and consulted with Dawn Neisser
Our objective is to share with Stanford students what a herbarium is and the significance of the work. Students can explore the 360 herbarium space with interactive media such as: videos of the collecting process, pictures of plants, and brief history of herbariums. We did needfinding with students, produced multimedia assets, used the Pano2VR software, and tested iterations of the prototype while consulting with herbarium docents throughout.I led the logistics, grant writing, budget handling, and design of this virtual field trip, focusing on the educational aspects and assessment of learning. From initial surveys, students showed an increase in herbarium knowledge and agreed that the virtual field trip helped them enjoy the subject matter better. The VFT was featured here.

GUID explorable with iDigBio
(Sept 2023) Role: Project Lead, Collaborators: Molly Phillips, Cat Chapman, Katie Pearson
I worked with iDigBio over the summer to create educational resources on GUIDs targeted towards collection professionals. I led a team remotely to create the resource, consulting content experts to create learning objectives and a storyboard of the GUID explorable. I then used figma to design and create the interactive explorable and Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator to create illustrations. We were able to iterate on feedback throughout the process, drawing on instructional design principles.

Tactile Thinker Activity
(Sept 2023) Collaborators: Rui Huang, Adam Sparks
Our team collaborated with the Cantor Arts Center to create an art experience accessible for visitors with low vision. We consulted with museum professionals and our target audience from the Blind Posse to inform our work. We utilized user personas, researched solutions, prototyped and tested our prototype. We collaboratively created a tactile experience where visitors can listen to an audio description guiding them through experiencing the 3D replica through touch.
Our project video can be found here.
